Ursuline Sister Mary Eileen Howard, 87, dies

Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph Mary Eileen Howard died March 8 in Owensboro, Ky. She was 87 and had been an Ursuline sister for 67 years.

Sister Howard, a native of Whitesville, Ky., served as a music teacher in Kentucky and Missouri.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. James, St. Denis and St. Margaret Mary schools in Louisville. She taught at St. Catherine School in New Haven, Ky., from 1969 to 1971. She also served as a liturgist at Mount Saint Joseph until 2013.

Sister Howard is survived by a sister, Ita Belle Howard of Whitesville, and four brothers, James Howard of Louisville, Ky.; Robert Howard of Whitesville, Daniel Howard of Philpot, Ky.; Brice Howard of Owensboro, Ky.; and her religious community.

Visitation will take place March 11 beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a wake at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place March 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Saint Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky.
