St. Dominic student wins St. Patrick coloring contest

Mary Medley, a fourth-grade student at St. Dominic School in Springfield, Ky., was named the grand-prize winner in this year’s Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Patrick Coloring Contest.

Fifteen other first- to third-place student winners from kindergarten to fourth grade also were announced last week. They are:

Kindergarten: Parker Hoyer of St. Athanasius School, first place; Abigail Dries of St. Margaret Mary School, second place; and Luke Wissing of Holy Spirit School, third place.

First Grade: Lillian Meredith, St. Joseph School in Bardstown, Ky., first place; Jill Eichberger, St. Bernard School, second place; Don White, St. Athanasius, third place.

Second Grade: Reese Karem, St. Aloysius School in Pewee Valley, Ky., first place; Allie Hellinger, St. Martha School, second place; Taylor Hoffmann, St. Patrick School, third place.

Third Grade: Conner O’Loughlin, St. Patrick, first place; Ty Pierce, Holy Family School, second place; Anna Downey, Our Lady of Lourdes School, third place.

Fourth Grade: Sydney Copeland, St. James School in Louisville, first place; Mimi Hunter, Our Lady of Lourdes School, second place; Baily Prince, St. Athanasius, third place.

The awards will be presented at a Mass in honor of St. Patrick at noon March 10 at St. Louis Bertrand Church. Each winner receives his or her entry framed as a keepsake, and they also receive a contest t-shirt.

All the winners and their families will ride in a special unit in the March 10 St. Patrick’s Parade along Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road. The parade begins at 3 p.m.
