CSAA crowns basketball champs

St. Martha School won the seventh- and eighth-grade AA division at the CSAA city basketball championship Feb. 12 against St. Mary Academy.

The Catholic Schools Athletic Association crowned champions in boys’ and girls’ basketball competition held last month at five different locations in the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Sixth-grade girls’ games were played Feb. 18 at DeSales High School and Feb. 19 at Trinity High School. Eighth-grade girls’ games were played Feb. 12 at St. Xavier High, Feb. 18 at DeSales High and Feb. 19 at Trinity High.

Boys’ games were held Feb. 19 at Trinity High School, Feb. 18 at DeSales High School, Feb. 17 at Mercy Academy and Feb. 12 at St. Xavier High School. Junior and senior intermediate championship games were held Feb. 17 at St. Agnes School.

In girls’ competition, the winners were:

Sixth-grade Girls #1A — St. Paul defeated St. Andrew 17-9.
Sixth-grade Girls #1AA — St. Margaret Mary defeated St. Gabriel 15-13.
Sixth-grade Girls #2A — St. Michael defeated St. Andrew 21-8.
Sixth-grade Girls #2AA — Sacred Heart Model School defeated St. Albert 12-10.
Sixth-grade Girls 3 & 4 — St. Gabriel #3 defeated St. Albert #4 22-11.

Eighth-grade Girls #1A — St. Stephen Martyr defeated St. Paul 36-23.
Eighth-grade Girls #1AA — St. Margaret Mary defeated St. Martha 38-29.
Eighth-grade Girls #2A — St. Michael defeated St. Andrew 21-15.
Eighth-grade Girls #2AA — St. Margaret Mary defeated St. Gabriel 25-8.
Eighth-grade Girls 3 & 4 — St. Margaret Mary defeated Holy Trinity 13-7.

In boys’ competition:

Sixth-grade Boys #1A — Our Lady of Lourdes defeated St. Rita 31-21.
Sixth-grade Boys #1AA — St. Bernard defeated St. Gabriel 23-22 in overtime.
Sixth-grade Boys #2A — Our Lady of Lourdes defeated Holy Spirit 31-14.
Sixth-grade Boys #2AA — Holy Trinity defeated St. Patrick 25-24.
Sixth-grade Boys #3 — Holy Trinity defeated St. Albert 25-23.
Sixth-grade Boys #4 — Holy Trinity defeated St. Gabriel 25-8.
Sixth-grade Boys 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 — Holy Trinity #5 defeated Holy Trinity #6 19-15.

Eighth-grade Boys #1A — John Paul II Academy defeated St. Stephen Martyr 49-38.
Eighth-grade Boys #1AA — St. Martha defeated St. Mary 32-22.
Eighth-grade Boys #2A — St. Aloysius of Pewee Valley defeated St. Stephen Martyr 46-41.
Eighth-grade Boys #2AA — St. Margaret Mary defeated St. Nicholas Academy 33-23.
Eighth-grade Boys #3 — Holy Trinity defeated St. Nicholas Academy 39-25.
Eighth-grade Boys 4, 5, 6 & 7 — St. Albert #4 defeated St. Aloysius #5 38-23.
Junior Intermediate — St. Margaret Mary defeated St. Edward 38-35.
Senior Intermediate — St. Thomas More defeated St. Margaret Mary 48-46.
