Mercy Academy highlights seniors’ service projects

Mercy-Academy-Logo-wMercy Academy hosted a Senior Service Open House Jan. 4 to showcase the work of students in its Service Learning and Leadership Program.

“Each theology class developed a goal based on the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy and worked to address it through both direct and social action,” said a press release from the school.

Students focused on a variety of issues affecting women, immigration, education, affordable housing and hunger. Among their efforts was a project to raise awareness about human trafficking and an effort to lobby for passage of the Dream Act, which would allow immigrant children under age 16 to obtain legal status in the United States.
