Yearbook honor

The 2013 staff of the Assumption High School newspaper, The Rosecall, received a Gold Medal award from the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association for comprehensive excellence in journalism, photography, layout and website.

Play

St. Nicholas Academy will present “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” Feb. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Iroquois Ampitheater, near the intersection of New Cut Road and Kenwood Drive). The play will be performed by students in grades three to eight. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Speech contest

  • Pedro Sanchez-Villa, a junior at Trinity High School, and Jorge Rojas-Ortega, a Trinity sophomore, participated in the Wilson Wyatt Debate League at Waggener on Jan. 11. Sanchez-Villa was named third-best speaker in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Rojas-Ortega was name best speaker in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
  • In their first outing as a team, the Varsity Public Forum team of seniors John Moremen and Jackson Rice claimed third place in the Trinity/North Oldham “Press Your Luck” Invitational also held Jan. 11.

The team’s third-place finish also earned them a third-place finish in overall debate sweepstakes points.
