Spring musicals
Several area schools will host spring musicals. A list is below.
- Assumption High School’s Rose Theatre Company will present “Alice in Wonderland” April 18 and 25 at 7 p.m. and April 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $9 for students and seniors and $14 for adults and can be purchased at the door or preordered at ahsrockets.org. Individuals who need wheelchair accessibility should contact Irene Bozio at irene.bozio@ahsrockets.org.
This particular version of Alice in Wonderland is suited for ages third grade and above. - St. Andrew Academy will present “Willy Wonka.” April 26 at 7 p.m. and April 28 at 2 p.m. Both shows will be held at St. Andrew Academy, 7724 Columbine Drive. This is the school’s first spring musical. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Admission for children under three is free.
- St. Nicholas Academy will present “Charlotte’s Web,” April 12 at 7 p.m. and April 14 at 2 p.m. at the Iroquois Amphitheater. Tickets are $5 at the door.
- St. Margaret Mary School will present “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” April 24 and 25 at 7 p.m., April 26 at 6 p.m. and April 28 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held at the school, 7813 Shelbyville Road.
Tickets bought in advance are $9 for adults and $6 for students and seniors and can be purchased at www.showtix4u.com. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.
Science fair
The St. Xavier High School Honors Independent Science Research class competed in the Louisville Regional Science Fair at the University of Louisville.
Competing in the electrical and mechanical engineering category, John Nolan placed third. In the category of energy and transportation, Reed Oliver placed third. Zach Wilson finished third in the behavioral science category. In the category of engineering materials, John Crawford placed third. Braxton Eveslage finished second and Ryan Sullivan finished third in the environmental science category. And Doug Krauth took first place in the chemistry category.
Toy drive
Trinity High School students and faculty collected 300 toys worth approximately $3,000 for Jarrett’s Joy Cart at Kosair Children’s Hospital. The toys will be delivered to the hospital on April 9.
Journalism honor
Three Trinity High School student journalists won awards for their work on the school’s newspaper.
Senior Tevin Johnson-Campion finished in second place in the columns/reviews category; senior John Cerjak finished third in the best news writer category; and junior Jake Smith placed second in sports writing and third in sports photography.
Eagle Scout
Adam Williams recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Williams is a member of Troop 342, sponsored by St. Pius X Church. For his Eagle Scout project, Williams worked with St. Joseph Children’s Home to build three large picnic tables to be used by the children and families served at St. Joseph’s. The tables also will be used at the annual St. Joseph Orphans’ Picnic held in August each year.
