Merit finalists

Additional students who attend Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are:
Bethlehem High School — Colton Stinger and Catherine Terrell.
Trinity High School — Christopher Collins, Timothy Graven and Daniel McCarthy.
Finalists from Sacred Heart Academy and St. Xavier High School were published in the Feb. 19 edition.

Scholarship

Josh Kidwell, a senior at Trinity High School, has received a McDonald’s Restaurants of Kentuckiana Black History Makers of Tomorrow Scholarship. He is one of 10 winners and received $1,500. Kidwell received the award at a ceremony Feb. 26 at the Mayor’s Gallery in Louisville’s Metro Hall.

Theater

  • St. Xavier High School’s drama department will present “Grease” on March 20, 21, 26 and 28 at 7 p.m. and March 22 and 28 at 2 p.m.

  • Holy Trinity School will present “Peter Pan Junior” March 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and March 7 at 2 p.m.
    Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. All performances will be in the Ursuline Art Center, 3114 Lexington Road.
  • Trinity High School’s department of theatre arts will present the musical “Lucky Stiff” March 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and March 15 and 22 at 2 p.m.
    Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. All performances will be held at the Trinity Auditorium, 115 N. Sherrin Avenue.

Shakespeare

First- and second-grade students at John Paul II Academy will be introduced to the world of Shakespeare through theater, drama, Elizabethan dance, art, writing, reading and science. The program was made possible by a PNC/National Arts Endowment grant.
The students will study “The Tempest” and will act out and read the play along with creating costume designs for the characters, a news release from the school said.

Spring concert

The Louisville Youth Choir, in residence at Sacred Heart School for the Arts, will present its annual spring concert March 8 at 3 p.m. at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Avenue. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors (age 55 and over) and $5 for students.

Young playwrights

Assumption High School presented “Undefined,” a collection of 10-minute plays written by Assumption students on the theme of “relationships with individuals who have learning differences and physical disabilities,” a news release from the school said.
The production is part of the BLOOM Theatre Project, Assumption’s social justice theater program produced by the school’s Rose Theatre Company in conjunction with Assumption’s Mission Week.

  1. The Holy Trinity Parish School Production of Peter Pan for Friday night, March 6, has been postponed to Sunday at 2pm. There will be shows Saturday, March 7 at 2pm & 7pm, as well as Sunday, March 8 at 2pm. All Shows are at Ursuline Art Theater on Sacred Heart’s campus. Tickets purchased for Friday’s show may be used at any of the performances.
