Sustainability group marks 10th anniversary

New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future, led by Dominican Sister Claire McGowan, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a gala dinner and awards ceremony at Spalding Hall on the campus of St. Catharine College in Springfield, Ky., today, March 5.

Mary Berry, founder of the Berry Center in New Castle, Ky., and the Berry Farming Program at St. Catharine College, will receive the first New Pioneers Trailblazer Award. It will be presented by her father, Wendell Berry.

Arthur and Martha Young of Washington County, Ky., will receive the first New Pioneers Green Living Award in recognition of their long commitment to sustainable practices on their farm and their leadership for sustainability in the local community.
