“CanStructure”
Presentation Academy faculty and students donated 1,010 canned goods to the Dare to Care Food Bank on the campus of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
The students built a “CanStructure” with the donated food items.
This event was organized by Sister of St. Benedict Anna O’Connor.
Charity run/walk
St. Rita School raised $1,254.51 for the 2014 Down Syndrome of Louisville “Steps to Independence Walk/Run.” The total surpassed the school’s initial goal of $500.
Choral concert
Mercy Academy will host two Christmas choral concerts in the school’s Stockyards Bank Auditorium, 5801 Fegenbush Lane. The concerts will be Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Tech leadership
DeSales High School’s Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) team advanced to state competition after a strong performance at the Regional STLP Fall Showcase Nov. 10 at the University of Louisville
Senior Jose Garcia and juniors Stephen Mayer, Logan Clark and Michael Schultz presented two projects: one involving the iHelp Desk at DeSales and the second regarding the Summer Tech Youth Camp.
The program, which was started by the Kentucky Department of Education in 1994, uses “project-based learning principles to empower student-learning and achievement through the utilization and creation of technology-based solutions for school and community needs,” a news release from the school said.
State champs
Mercy Academy’s volleyball team won the Kentucky state volleyball championship tournament Nov. 10. The school celebrated the state title with an all-school pep rally Nov. 13.
Senior Merideth Jewell was named the 2014 Miss Kentucky Volleyball. Jewell, Lexi Hamrick and Devon Rachel were selected as members of the All-State first team. Nikki Koval was chosen second team All-State.
Dare to Care
Trinity High School raised more than $9,000 in its annual Dare to Care Food Drive. The total surpassed last year’s collection by $1,500.
Bone marrow
Thirty-four Trinity High School seniors and school staff swabbed their cheeks to determine if they might be bone-marrow matches for Trinity sophomore Owen McMasters, who is in need of a bone-marrow transplant.
The names of nine potential donors, who weren’t old enough, were put on the Sharing America’s Marrow email list and they will sign up with the registry later this year when they turn 18.
Letters of intent
-Four seniors at St. Xavier High School have signed National Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics. They are:
Jake Glass (track and field), Illinois State University; Max Cartor (lacrosse), Bellarmine University, Brandon Lancaster (tennis) University of Louisville and Heyward Harrison (swimming), University of North Carolina.
-Twelve seniors at Trinity High School signed letters of intent to play college sports. They are:
Baseball — Jonathan Imperial, University of Indianapolis
Cross country — Evan Lang Bellarmine University
Basketball — Jay Murphy, New York University; Daniel Ramser, Bellarmine University; Ray Spalding, University of Louisville; Christian Thieneman, Marshall University; and DeAngelo West, Texas State University.
Lacrosse — Jeremiah Hemme, U.S. Air Force Academy; Tate Smith, Centre College
Golf — Grant Hummel and James Inman, Bellarmine University
Soccer — Sam Stockton, Indiana University
Team award
Trinity High School’s soccer team has been honored by the Kentucky High School Coaches Association with the Team Academic Achievement Award for exceptional performance based on the 2013-14 academic year, a news release from the school said.
