Xaverian Brother Reigel, 84, dies May 1

Xaverian Brother William T. “Benedictus” Reigel died May 1 at Nazareth Home. He was 84 years old and had been a Xaverian Brother for 67 years.

Brother Reigel, a native of Louisville, earned a bachelor’s degree from the Catholic University of American and a master’s degree from Brooklyn College and had certificates in counseling in New York and Kentucky.

He served as a teacher, principal and counselor. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, he served in several guidance and counseling roles from 1972 until he retired in 1995. He also taught at Spalding University. In his retirement, he volunteered at Project Women, now known as Family Scholar House, and the Sister Visitor Center.

Survivors include his brother Ronald Reigel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the chapel of St. Xavier High School May 6 followed by burial in the Xaverian Cemetery on the school campus.
