Sister Barbara Peterson, SCN, dies at 90

SCNSister of Charity of Nazareth Barbara Peterson died at Nazareth Home on May 9. She was 90 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 69 years.

Sister Peterson, a native of St. Mary, Ky., served in elementary and secondary education as both a teacher and principal in Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio for 18 years. She served as dean of students at Nazareth College in Nazareth, Ky. from 1966 to 1970. From 1973 to 1980, she served as provincial of the Eastern Province of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Massachusetts.

In Louisville, she served as chaplain of Our Lady of Peace Hospital and as part-time Chaplain at Caritas Peace Center in the 1990s. She also served as director of alumni relations for the SCNs.

Sister Peterson moved to Nazareth Home in April where she served in the apostolate of prayer.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Kemper of Louisville, nieces, nephews and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 13 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Ky., followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Nazareth Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 12. After the arrival of the body at Nazareth at 6:30 p.m., there will be a prayer service in St. Vincent Church.
