Ursuline Sister Frances Schaf dies

Ursuline Sister of Louisville Frances (Bibiana) Schaf died April 30 at Mercy Sacred Heart. She was 85 and had been an Ursuline since 1947.

Sister Schaf, a native of David City, Neb., served as a teacher, administrator and in pastoral ministry in Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming from the 1950s to 2000.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Schaf taught at Holy Spirit School from 1949 to 1950, St. Ann School from 1950 to 1952 and Ursuline Academy from 1956 to 1957. She moved to Mercy Sacred Heart in 2011 where she served in the ministry of prayer.

She is survived by her brothers Joseph H. and Leo E. Schaf, her sister Alice Schaf Didier, nieces, nephews and her Ursuline community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 6 at 11 a.m. in the Ursuline Motherhouse Chapel, 3115 Lexington Road. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

Visitation will be May 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel. A vigil will begin at 7 p.m.
