St. Frances of Rome celebrating 125 years

St. Frances of Rome Church at 2119 Payne St., is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year with a series of events and activities.

At 4 p.m April 22 in the church sanctuary, Father Jerry Eifler, former pastor and coauthor with Steve Wiser and Charles Beckman Sr., of St. Frances of Rome Church Community — An Illustrated History, will present a program on the history of the parish.

Father Eifler’s presentation will not only include information about the parish, but will also include details on the life of the parish’s namesake, St. Frances of Rome.

Other celebratory events marking the church’s 125 years include:

May 27, at an 11:30 a.m. Mass Father Bernard J. Breen, the parish’s current pastor, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. The service will include special music and will be followed by a reception at the Clifton Center.

On June 20, beginning with a 4 p.m. Mass, an “All Class Reunion” for former students of St. Frances of Rome School will be held. It will include a program and dinner for thos with reservations.

On July 8 Sister Mary Jo Gramig will celebrate her 50th anniversary as an Ursuline Sister, beginning with Mass at 11:30 a.m. followed by a reception at the Clifton Center. And on Sept. 23, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will celebrate an anniversary Mass at 11:30 a.m. with a reception to follow.

Other events and activities are still in the planning stages, according to a news release from the parish.
