Sisters of Providence to celebrate milestone jubilees

Two Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., with ties to the Archdiocese of Louisville will celebrate jubilees this year.

70 YEARS

Sister Rita Ann Wade, a native of Indianapolis, entered the congregation on Jan. 7, 1949, and professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1955.

Sister Wade, formerly Sister Rose Annette Wade, graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she served in health care ministry at the University of Louisville Hospital from 1976-1977.

She also ministered in Illinois, Indiana and Washington, D.C. She currently serves as the co-director of Miracle Place in Indianapolis.

60 YEARS

Sister Brigid Ann Bonner, a native of Whiting, Ind., entered the congregation on Jan. 6, 1958. She professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1965.

Sister Bonner graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree in education from Ball State University as well as a master’s degree in social work from the University of Louisville.

She has ministered in health care, social work and education. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she worked as a hospital social worker at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital from 1991-1997; as a social worker at Caritas Medical Center from 1998-2005; as a social worker at Britthaven of South Louisville from 2005-2009; as a substitute teacher and volunteer for archdiocesan schools from 2009-2015; and as a social worker at Georgetown Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from 2009-2010.

She also ministered in Indiana, Illinois and Kansas. She currently ministers to those experiencing homelessness at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Louisville.
