Sister Von Bokern, SCN, an educator, dies at 76

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Barbara Von Bokern died Jan. 24 in Louisville at the age of 76. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 55 years.

Sister Von Bokern, a native of Covington, Ky., served in educational ministry in schools in Louisiana and Kentucky, including Presentation Academy and Community Catholic School in Louisville. She later worked in community service for her religious community.

Sister Von Bokern is survived by her siblings, Bernard Von Bokern, Betty Herold, Darlene Hill, Jerry Von Bokern, David Von Bokern, Mary “Bird” Von Bokern and Shirley German; her extended family; and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 28 at Our Lady of Nazareth Chapel at Nazareth Home in Louisville, followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery on the grounds of the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse in Nazareth, Ky.
