Sister Thelma Sheehan, OSU, dies at age 102

OSU-obituaries-wUrsuline Sister of Louisville Thelma Sheehan died May 11 at Mercy Sacred Heart. She was 102 and had been an Ursuline Sister for 87 years.

Sister Sheehan, a native of Louisville, was a graduate of Ursuline College and served as a teacher in Kentucky, Indiana, Mississippi, Nebraska and West Virginia.

Between 1930 and 1980 Sister Sheehan taught in the Archdiocese of Louisville at St. Vincent de Paul, St. Elizabeth, St. Ann, St. Therese, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Joseph and St. Rita schools.

She also served as administrator of the Ursuline Motherhouse from 1984 to 1994. She became a resident of Marian Home in 2006 and moved to Mercy Sacred Heart in 2010.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews and religious community.

Visitation will be May 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ursuline Motherhouse. A vigil will follow at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated May 15 at 11 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, followed by burial in St. Michael Cemetery.
