Sister of Charity Jean Vessels, a teacher, dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Jean Vessels, formerly Sister Jane Louise, died Oct. 31. She was 94 and had been an SCN for 74 years.

Sister Vessels, a native of Louisville, served as a teacher in Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia and Massachusetts.

She served as principal of Presentation Academy 1973 to 1979. She also taught elementary school in the Archdiocese of Louisville, including St. Gregory in Samuels, Ky., and St. Monica in Bardstown, Ky.

Sister Vessels also served as a substitute teacher for Jefferson County Public Schools.

She is survived by members of her extended family and her religious community.

Visitation and a prayer service will be held Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Nazareth Home chapel.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. at Nazareth Home chapel. A welcoming prayer service will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Nazareth followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
