Sister Baseheart, a Spalding instructor, dies at 91

SCNLogo2015Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Christopher Baseheart died at Nazareth Home on Sept. 7. She was 91 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) for 66 years.

Sister Baseheart, a native of Owensboro, Ky., served as an associate professor at Spalding College, now university, from 1971 to 1998. She taught English, Latin and communications arts, film TV and video. She spent a year in Paris studying at Centre Universitaire Americain du Cinéma.

She also served as editor of the SCN magazine “Response” from 1961 to 1971. In retirement, she served in the apostolate of prayer.

Sister Baseheart is survived by nieces, nephews and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sept. 15 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. Burial will follow in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sept. 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the church.
