Bellarmine to hold panel on Laudato Si’

LaudatoSiBellarmine University will present “Caring for our Common Home: A Panel Discussion on Pope Francis’ Challenge for Greater Louisville” on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. The panel discussion will take place in the George G. Brown Center’s Frazier Hall on the school’s campus at 2001 Newburg Road.

During the event, environmental experts and theologians will discuss how Pope Francis’ call to care for the environment can help shape public policy in the city of Louisville and surrounding regions. The pope’s encyclical on the environment entitled “Laudato Si’, On Care for Our Common Home” was released in June.

Louisville mayor, Greg Fischer, and Dr. Joseph J. McGowan, president of Bellarmine University, will deliver opening remarks.

The panel will include Maria Koetter, director of Louisville Metro’s Office of Sustainability; Tim Darst, executive director of Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light and Father James Flynn, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville.

The event is sponsored by Bellarmine’s School of Environmental Studies and the theology department.
