Scouts to hold Flaget Trail Aug. 18

The Catholic Committee on Scouting will hold the 66th annual Bishop Flaget Trail on Aug. 18. The event is open to Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venture Scouts, Girl Scouts and American Heritage Girls.

Scouts will camp on Friday and Saturday nights on the property of Monastery Immaculate Conception, home of the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Ind. The sisters are celebrating their 145th anniversary this year.

The trail will begin at 10 a.m. Aug. 18 and includes visits to the monastery’s chapel, rosary grotto, prayer labyrinth, gift shop and cemetery. In the afternoon, counselors will be trained for the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII Religious Emblem programs. Scouts and their leaders also are invited to take part in a rosary service and reconciliation.

Mass will be celebrated that evening at 7 p.m. Father Jeff Gatlin, chaplain for the Catholic Committee on Scouting, will be the celebrant.
