SCN Margaret Meisner dies at 80

SCNLogo2015Sister of Charity of Nazareth Margaret Meisner died Jan. 10 at Nazareth Home. She was 80 and was in her 61st year of religious life.

Sister Meisner, a native of Louisville, served as an elementary school teacher in Ohio, Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky for 20 years. In Kentucky, Sister Meisner taught at Community Catholic School in Louisville.

She later served in parish ministry in Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina and in Belize, Central America.

Sister Meisner had an interest in contemplative prayer and in 1979 she spent months living in solitude in a shelter she built at the Transfiguration House of Prayer in Butler, Pa. She moved to Arkansas in 1990, where she served for 25 years, first in parish ministry and then as director of guest relations and as a patient representative at an infirmary.

Sister Meisner is survived by a brother, Maurice Meisner, nieces and nephews and members of her religious community.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 13 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery.
