Deacon Michael Layman dies

Deacon Michael Layman died on Jan. 13. He was 68.

Deacon Layman, a native of Louisville, was ordained a deacon of the Archdiocese of Louisville in 2010.  He was also a project manager for the Army Corps of Engineers.

Deacon Layman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and formerly served as a deacon at St. Albert the Great Church. He was active in Metro Corrections Jail Ministry and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Flaherty; daughters, Michelle Palazzo (Dave), Shannon Jenkins (Chris) and Carla Layman; son, Daniel Selter; and six grandchildren (one is deceased).

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Jan. 18 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 508 Breckenridge Lane, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan.17 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road.
