Retreat participants work in garden at CrossRoads

Keegan Holland, left, and Craig Cwynar, both students of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, tended to the raised-bed gardens at St. William Church, 1226 West Oak Street, July 24. Holland and Cwynar were both participants in the week-long CrossWalk retreat hosted by Crossroads Ministry, an outreach ministry of St. William Church. Produce from the garden is used to feed retreatants and staff. In the future the retreat-based group hopes to share some produce with the nearby Dierson Center and parishioners of St. William.

CrossRoads Ministry, an outreach ministry of St. William Church, has eight new raised-bed gardens adjacent to their property at 1226 West Oak Street.

The gardens were planted by retreat participants from Cape Girardeau, Mo., last month.

Produce — including asparagus, carrots, tomatoes, kale, peppers and cucumbers — from the garden is used to feed participants and staff during retreats. In the future the retreat-based group hopes to share some of the produce with the nearby Diersen Center and parishioners of St. William, said Dawn Dones, CrossRoads director.
