On Dec. 6, the feast day of St. Nicholas, 32 students, along with four staff members and parent volunteers from St. Nicholas Academy, went shopping at Jefferson Mall to purchase gifts for 15 children and their families who need extra help during the holidays. More than $3,700 was raised for this “Heaven Cents” shopping day. Shoppers, above, are, from left to right, Briana Ruzanka, Jalen Story and Emily Shepherd.

The student body of Holy Spirit School collected 357 pairs of new or gently used shoes to benefit Soles4Souls, a charity based in Nashville, Tenn., that provides shoes to people in need. The effort was organized by four fifth-graders, below from left, Lauren Gentile, Anna Pfeifer, Sarah Stuckert and Sara Smith. Students also paid $1 to have a “dress-down day” and the money was used to pay for shipping.
