Father Ron Knott will celebrate ‘Blue Christmas Mass’ Dec. 24

Father J. Ronald Knott, who writes The Record’s weekly “An Encouraging Word” column, will offer a “Blue Christmas Mass” at Our Lady of the Woods Chapel at Bellarmine University on Dec. 24 at 4 p.m.

This will be second year he has offered the Mass for people who have a difficult time at Christmas — those who have lost children, spouses, parents, friends, jobs, homes and grieve deeply through the holidays.

Father Knott explains in his column this week (on page 4) that the liturgy will be “quietly appropriate with soft music rather than blaring trumpets and full organ. The homily will center on a word of encouragement for those who are grieving.”

He asks that people simply looking for an “early” Mass refrain from attending the “Blue Christmas Mass.” A more traditional family-centered liturgy will be celebrated in the chapel at 5:30 p.m.
