Dominican Sister of Peace Maria del Rey Mangan, an educator, dies at 93

Dominican Sister of Peace Maria del Rey Mangan died June 2 at Sansbury Care Center. She was 93 and had been a Dominican Sister for 73 years.

Sister Mangan, a native of Greeley, Neb., ministered in education and parish ministry in Nebraska.

From 1987-1991, she served her community as the Western Regional Coordinator for the former Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine, one of seven congregations that merged to form the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2009.

In 2007, Sister Mangan moved to the St. Catharine Motherhouse in St. Catharine, Ky., where she provided community service. She moved to Sansbury Care Center in March, where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.

She is survived by three nieces, a nephew and members of her community.

Due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, a private visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery.
