Dominican Sister Josefina Rivera-Ortiz dies at 104

Dominican Sister of Peace Josefina Rivera-Ortiz died on April 25 at age 104 at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Ky. She had been a Dominican Sister for 73 years and moved to the St. Catharine Motherhouse campus last year.

Sister Rivera-Ortz is a native of Orocovis, Puerto Rico. She served in various ministries, including as a social worker in Puerto Rico, Florida and Columbia; at spiritual retreats in Pennsylvania and Florida and at residences for women in Philadelphia and New York City.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated May 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sansbury Care Center Chapel in St. Catharine. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery.
