‘The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s fifth annual Friends of the Poor Walk will be held Oct. 14 at Churchill Downs. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. and the walk will start at 2 p.m.
The event raises money to benefit the needy and suffering in Louisville, Southern Indiana and Central Kentucky. Walkers receive pledges (in any amount) from donors who support the walk, and all of the money raised will directly benefit struggling families and individuals throughout the community, according to a news release from the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The assistance includes such things as emergency financial help for rent, utility bills, food and the other basics of life.
