Dominican Sister Apalategui, 79, dies

Dominican Sister of Peace Maria Teresa Apalategui, 79, died Feb. 1 at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Ky.

Sister Apalategui, a native of Tucson, Ariz., served in catechetical, youth and pastoral ministry in Arizona and Louisiana and in social services in Arizona.

She moved to the St. Catharine Motherhouse in 2013, where she provided community service and volunteered once a week at a  Presbyterian thrift store. In 2020, she relocated to the Sansbury Care Center for a ministry of prayer and presence.

She is survived by her brother, Carlos, and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 7 at Sansbury Care Center Chapel with burial in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
