Discalced Carmelite Sister Clare of the Holy Face dies at age 85

Discalced Carmelite Sister Clare of the Holy Face — formerly Leorita Burka — died April 8 at age 85.

Sister Burka was a native of Danville, Ky., and graduated from St. Camillus Academy in Corbin, Ky. She entered the Louisville Carmelite community in 1947 and made her profession of vows in 1948. Sister Burka served the Carmelite community for six years as prioress, sub-prioress and councilor. She also served for more than 25 years as mistress of novices.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, cousins and her Carmelite sisters.

Visitation will be tomorrow, April 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. at the Carmelite Chapel, 1740 Newburg Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz tomorrow, April 12 at 10 a.m. at the Monastery Chapel on Newburg Road, with a private interment in the Monastery Cemetery.
