Dance competition to support local soup kitchen

letsdancelouisville-6.24.14-wThe Cathedral of the Assumption’s lunch program, Sandefur Dining Hall, will host its inaugural “Let’s Dance Louisville” event at 6 p.m. on June 26 at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel, 500 S. Fourth St.

“Let’s Dance Louisville” is a “Dancing with the Stars”-type event and will include 12 Louisville “stars” who will dance in the competition for bragging rights and a mirror ball trophy. The dancers include: Apollo Bacala, Shannon Cogan, Dr. David Easley, Angie Fenton, Majid Ghavami, Charlotte Ipsan, Father Jeffrey Nichols (pastor of the Cathedral of the Assumption), Phil Pilewski, Noemi Robinson, John Varanese, Suzanne Whayne and Judith Youngblood.

Each dancer will be paired with a professional dance instructor from either Shall We Dance or the Derby City Ballroom, two dance studios in Louisville. Each dancer will receive both a technical score and a people’s choice score. Fans are encouraged to cast a vote for their favorite dancers. One vote is $1 and can be made on the “Let’s Dance Louisville” website, letsdancelouisville.com.

Proceeds from the “Let’s Dance Louisville” competition will benefit the Sandefur Dining Hall. The program serves a hot lunch 365 days a year to an average of 160 homeless and low-income individuals.
