Catholic girls’ schools unite for a fundraising challenge

RecordLogo-FThe four all-girl Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville have teamed up for a joint alumnae fundraising challenge called #RivalsUnited4Girls.

Assumption High School, 2170 Tyler Lane; Mercy Academy, 5801 Fegenbush Lane; Presentation Academy, 861 S. Fourth St.; and Sacred Heart Academy, 3175 Lexington Road, have jointly called on their alumnae to give back to their schools this month.

The challenge began March 13 and will conclude March 24 at midnight. During this time frame, alumnae of each school are encouraged to financially support their school’s annual fund.

The school with the highest percentage of alumnae participation at the end of the challenge will be awarded a “Golden Piggy Bank” and will win bragging rights.

According to a joint press release from the four schools, “The annual fund is the lifeblood of a school, supporting the operational budget and helping to bridge the gap between tuition and what it costs to educate a student.”

Beth Feger Garr, a 1986 graduate of Mercy, said it’s important to invest in education for young women.

“Through the Rivals Challenge, we teach young women that healthy, spirited and fun competition can happen without tearing one another down, but by investing and building each other up,” Feger Garr said in the release.

Mary Margaret Ralph, theology teacher at Assumption said in the announcement, “It’s impossible to imagine who or where we’d be without the gift of our all-girls Catholic education. Now, it’s our turn to ensure that young women coming behind us can count on this incredible experience that, we know, will change their lives forever.”

Eleanor Hinkebein, a sophomore at Sacred Heart, said “The participation in last year’s ‘rivals challenge’ showed me our alumnae value the education they received at Sacred Heart. I know that I, too, am on my way to becoming a strong woman of great faith.”

Barbara Wine, principal of Presentation, said “ ‘Rivals Unite’ might be a competition, but in the end we all win. We are gifted with the opportunity to impact the attitudes and beliefs of our young women. I challenge all alumnae to support your schools.”

Last year, 2,942 alumnae took part in the challenge and they gave more than $130,000 to their schools. Presentation Academy took home the golden piggy bank. This year’s winner will be announced on March 28.
