Catholic elementary teachers honored with CEF awards

Thirty-eight Catholic elementary school teachers honored this year as winners of the Ulmer Excellence in Education Award posed following the presentation of the awards at the Aug. 10 special Mass and program to open the school year. Teachers from 38 Catholic elementary schools have been selected to receive Catholic Education Foundation Teacher Awards for excellence. The awards were announced at the Aug. 10 elementary teachers meeting held this year at St. Margaret Mary Church.

The awards, sponsored by Dan Ulmer and his family, were presented to one teacher from each school. Award winners are:

Elaine Whitehead, Ascension; Virginia Smith, Holy Family; Susan Johnston, Holy Spirit; Michelle Pullem, Holy Trinity; Maureen Miller, John Paul II Academy; Gina Wilke, Nativity Academy; Tammy Thomson, Notre Dame Academy and Lisa Platt, Our Lady of Lourdes.

Also, Jack Williams, Pitt Academy; Timmee Keys, Sacred Heart Model School; Diane Gant, St. Ann; Christine Wettig, St. Leonard; Patricia Feltner, St. Mary Academy; Shannon Tanner, St. Nicholas Academy; and Betsy Dragoo, St. Agnes.

Also, Nancy Leopold, St. Albert the Great; Rhonda Canary, St. Aloysius; Stephanie Blandford, St. Andrew Academy; Mary Ann Hettinger, St. Athanasius; Mollie Bystrek, St. Augustine; Carolyn Louderback, St. Bernard; Anita Brockman, St. Catherine Academy; Inez Grider, St. Dominic; Steve Mercer, St. Edward; Catie Jones, St. Francis of Assisi; Michelle Cornwell, St. Gabriel; and Cathy Edelen, St. Gregory.

Others honored were Anna Mattingly, St. James Regional School; Kelly Durrett, St. James; Anna DeWitt, St. Joseph; Michelle Stull, St. Margaret Mary; Donna Cooper, St. Martha; Maureen Rogg, St. Michael; Karen Torsky, St. Patrick; James Streble, St. Paul; Elizabeth Morris, St. Raphael the Archangel; Melanie Tipton, St. Rita; and Carol Carter, St. Stephen Martyr.
