‘Bologna Way’ recognized

The alley behind the Cathedral of the Assumption, affectionately called Bologna Alley, was officially recognized as Bologna Way during a ceremony Oct. 16. Father Michael Wimsatt, pastor of the Cathedral of the Assumption, climbed a ladder to unveil the honorary sign. The sign — located at the corner of Muhammad Ali and Cathedral Way — honors the Cathedral’s daily lunch program. The alley leads to the kitchen behind the Cathedral that has been serving daily lunches since the 1930s. In 2016, the kitchen served more than 39,000 lunches. Also at the sign unveiling, Deacon Lucio Caruso of Catholic Charities presented $5,000 on behalf of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development to the Cathedral’s identification card program, which helps homeless individuals obtain a state identification card.
