Charity running team will aid survivors of human trafficking

Catholic Charities of Louisville has formed a running team for the  Kentucky Derby Festival Mini-Marathon and Marathon to raise money and awareness of the Bakhita Empowerment Initiative, Catholic Charities’ anti-human trafficking program.

The Bakhita Freedom Racers will meet once a week for training runs beginning Jan.13. Team members will receive a free T-shirt and other incentives from sponsors.

To participate, register to run the races at derbyfestivalmarathon.com and select the Bakhita Empowerment Initiative as your charity team. Then create a fundraising goal and encourage your family and friends to support you as you run the races. All funds will help provide direct services to survivors of trafficking.

The team kick-off meeting is Jan. 9 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 3926 Poplar Level Road. For more information, contact Shandra Holcombe at sholcombe@archlou.org or 637-9786, ext. 205.
