Danny Atkins, a seventh and eight-grade teacher at St. Martha School offered a cookie to a lunch guest at the St. Vincent de Paul Society Open Hand Kitchen, on the S. Preston Street campus, Aug. 13.

Atkins was one of a group of 30 teachers who served lunch to guests as part of a “Works of Mercy” day of retreat.

The teachers started the morning off with Mass and spent the day in service across the city. They visited Calvary Cemetery; delivered 20 backpacks with school supplies to St. Augustine Church on West Broadway; and toured the oncology department at Kosair Children’s Hospital.
