Valerie Wilson walked down the aisle of St. Martin of Tours Church, 639 S. Shelby St., June 4 during a service where she received the Rite of Consecration of a Virgin Living in the World.

The consecration of a virgin is an ancient rite in the Catholic Church in which a woman commits to living a life of “perpetual virginity” and is “set aside as a sacred person who belongs only to Christ.” Prayer and service to the church are cornerstones of this vocation.
