Sister Mary Zita Henkel, an educator, dies at 85

SCNLogo-fSister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Zita Henkel died at Nazareth Home on June 16. She was 85 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 66 years.

Sister Henkel, a native of St. Joseph, Tenn., served as a teacher and principal in Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama for 37 years. She also served in health ministry in Alabama and Tennessee for 19 years.

She is survived by two brothers, Francis B. Henkel of Fair Oaks, Cal., and Joseph J. Henkel of Carmel, N.Y., and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on June 21 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. Burial will follow in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on June 20 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent Church. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m.
