Oblate Sister of Providence Mary Emily Burks died on June 30 at the Oblate Sisters of Providence Convent in Baltimore. She was 92 and had been an Oblate Sister of Providence since she was 17.
Sister Burks was a native of Louisville and a former member of St. Augustine Church. She and three of her siblings joined the Oblate Sisters of Providence as teenagers and became teachers.
She is survived by two siblings, Joanne Burks and Dorothy Gregory, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated July 8 at the Baltimore convent. Burial will be in Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore.
