Ursuline Sister Francis Joseph Porter dies

Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Francis Joseph Porter died July 7 at Mount St. Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky. She was 79 and in her 51st year of religious life.

Sister Porter was a teacher who served at St. Denis School from 1966 to 1967, Flaherty High School from 1968 to 1969, St. Margaret Mary School from 1969 to 1970 and St. Francis of Assisi School in Loretto, Ky., from 1973 to 1977. She also served in the Diocese of Owensboro as postmaster of the Mount St. Joseph Post Office for 28 of the last 29 years.

She is survived by her sister Betty Lou Able of Jacksonville, Fla., her brother-in-law Mike Cecil of Chicago, nieces, nephews and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. July 10 at Mount St. Joseph. Visitation will begin on July 9 at Mount St. Joseph at 4 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m.
