Canned good drive

Students at Holy Family School collected 2,325 canned goods for the Schuhmann Center, an organization that aids people who are poor or homeless in Louisville.
This marked the final service project for Holy Family students. The school closed May 30.

Kindergarten fun

Kindergarten Countdown, a series of events for students entering kindergarten, will be hosted at various locations in Louisville this summer. Children entering kindergarten will receive a free Kindergarten Countdown t-shirt and book. One child and an accompanying adult get in to each event at no charge. Stop by any Louisville Free Public Library June 1 or after to register for the program.
The first event will be June 7 at 10 a.m. at the Louisville Free Public Library, 301 York Street, and will feature StageOne Family Theatre. The next event will be June 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Frazier History Museum, 829 W. Main Street.

Merit scholars

Four graduates from high schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville have been awarded College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarships. They are:
Paxton Duff, St. Xavier High School (Centre College); Blake Merkley, Trinity High School (University of Kentucky); Caroline Radmacher, Assumption High School (University of Louisville); and Thomas Beyerle, Trinity High School (University of Louisville).

Summer program

Clay Grant, a senior at Trinity High School, will attend the Summer Scholars program at Miami University July 6 to 18. He will participate in a technology course entitled “The Art of Game Design.” A news release from the school said Grant “hopes to one day make this a career choice.”

Telly award

“A New Way to Learn,” the film produced by St. Xavier High School students Mark Vogt, Jacob Allgeier, Andrew Van Camp and Ben Gumbel, has been honored with a Bronze Telly Award. The film also earned an honorable mention in the first annual White House Student Film Festival.
