ACT/SAT Prep

The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center will offer ACT/SAT prep sessions on Saturdays from March 8 to April 12. The sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the center, 3146 West Broadway.
The cost is $25 for the six-week session. Individual assistance will be available the week prior to the April 19 test date from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

Eagle Scout

Tom Paris, a senior at Trinity High School, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Paris is a member of Troop 109 at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church.
For his Eagle Scout Service Leadership project, Paris constructed an enclosure for wildlife rehabilitation for the Second Chance Wildlife Center, which is near St. Francis of Goshen Church in Oldham County. The center treats injured and abandoned animals as well as some animals, particularly deer, that have been struck by a car or injured while being hunted.

Governor’s Cup

St. Xavier High School’s Academic Team captured its third straight Governor’s Cup Regional crown Feb. 15. The school’s Quick Recall Team took first place in regional competition and six students also advanced to state competition after qualifying in nine subject areas on individual tests taken.
Individual test takers qualifying for the state tournament are: Ben Fultz, Abishek Mahesh, Reed Repasky, John Tompkins, Freddie Weitendorf and Alex Young.

Letters of intent

Fifteen seniors at St. Xavier High School representing five sports signed National Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics Feb. 12. They are:
Baseball: Josh Osborne, Kentucky Wesleyan University; Tristan Purcell, University of Pikeville.
Cross Country and Track & Field: Chris Striegel, University of Louisville.
Lacrosse: Will Roshkowski, Bellarmine University; Raike Thornewill, Ohio Wesleyan University.
Football: Austin Askin, Eastern Illinois University; Lenny Broyles, Malone University; Malik Carr, Morehead State University; Spencer Foy, Western Kentucky University; Sam Gray, Centre College; DeKota Jones, Georgetown College; Ryan Karrer, Lindsey Wilson College; John Kurtz, University of Cincinnati; Andrew McCormick, University of Dayton; and Charles Walker, University of Kentucky.

Theater

  • For their spring musical, Trinity High School will present “Good News.” The performances will be March 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and matinees on March 9, 15 and 16 at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Auditorium on Sherrin Avenue.
    Tickets for adults are $10 and $8 for seniors and students
  • Presentation Academy will present “Snoopy the Musical” Feb. 28 and March 1 in the school’s Arts & Athletic Center, located at 900 S. Fourth Street. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students. For more information, call 583-5935.
  • St. Xavier High School will present “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” March 8, 13 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and March 9 and 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased online at saintx.com/drama. Merit finalists

Trinity High School seniors Thomas Beyerle and Blake Merkley have been named finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
