School honor

Holy Trinity School, 423 Cherrywood Lane, was recognized for its efforts in compassion Jan. 29 by the office of Mayor Greg Fischer. Brenda Frank, a representative from mayor’s office, will present the school with a Proclamation for Compassion.
The city of Louisville has been twice named the model compassionate city by the Charter for Compassion International. In an effort to continue this commitment to practice compassion, Louisville is naming 100 affirmed schools or businesses that are committed to being a model for compassion in their daily lives, a news release from Holy Trinity said.

IB world status

Sacred Heart Model School has achieved certification as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme school for grades six to eight.
SHMS is the only Catholic and private school in Kentucky certified as an IB middle years school.
The Middle Years Programme requires students to study two languages, humanities (to include religion at SHMS), sciences, math, arts (to include visual and performing arts at SHMS), physical education and technology, a news release from the school said. In the eighth grade, students will also undertake a community project to demonstrate the development of skills and understanding and to encourage students to implement “action as service” in the community, the release said.
The curriculum is organized through five areas of interaction, including approaches to learning, community and service, human ingenuity, environments and health and social education.
Sacred Heart Academy, also a member of Sacred Heart Schools, has been an IB high school since 1998 and is the only Catholic and private high school in Kentucky to offer the program.
