In the sixth-grade division, Tessa Ann Duncan from St. Nicholas Academy placed first. Matthew Higdon, also from St. Nicholas, placed second. Malcolm Jones of Christian Academy of Louisville earned third place honors.

In the seventh-grade division, Julie Nguyen of St. Nicholas placed first and Brian Long Thanh Tran of St. Nicholas placed second. Kiara Brewer-Carroll and Alainna Grant, both from Nativity Academy at St. Boniface, placed third.

In the eighth-grade division Kevin Wang placed first, Shaye Allen came in second and Macy Jones was awarded third place. All students in the eighth-grade division were from St. Nicholas.

Students in grades four to 12 were invited to take part in the community-wide event and were encouraged to create and showcase projects representing all scientific disciplines, including but not limited to physical, natural, biological and space sciences.

Service projects

Each year as part of the requirements for graduation, seniors at Holy Cross High School take part in a service project. Below are a couple of examples of this year’s projects.

  • Brittany Bernhagen and Sydney Morabito held a penny war at St. Paul School Feb. 25 to March 8 to raise money for the Kentucky Humane Society.
The penny war raised $816.50. Additionally Bernhagen and Morabito held a supply drive at Holy Cross where they collected 124 pet supplies that were also donated to the humane society.
  • Kim Cecil and Chelsey Frith raised money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana (RMHCK). They collected donations from local businesses, family, friends and held a bake sale. With the money raised, Cecil and Frith were able to purchase items on the RMHCK’s wish list.

National merit scholars

Three St. Xavier High School National Merit Finalists have been awarded scholarships. Parker Elliott, Jon Fish and Nicholas Snider are each recipients of the National Merit James E. Casey Scholarship sponsored by The UPS Foundation.

Governor’s cup

The St. Xavier High School Academic Team took third place at the Governor’s Cup State Finals.  The Quick Recall Team advanced to the championship game and finished in second place, missing the championship by one point. This second place finish was the best in St. X history.  Individual results were: Jon Fish, second in Social Studies and sixth in Composition; Collin Stevens, fifth in Arts and Humanities and Will Sack, sixth in Language Arts.
