Xaverian Brother George Willenbrink dies at age 88

Xaverian Brother George Willenbrink (formerly Brother Wilfrid) died March 19 after a brief stay at Nazareth Home. He was 88 years old.

Brother Willenbrink had been a Xaverian for 67 years. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1948 and received bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Harvard University.

He taught at a number of schools sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, the Congo, England and France. He spent the majority of his career, 44 years, teaching at St. Xavier.

He is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.

Visitation will be at the St. Xavier High School Chapel March 23 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and March 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be held March 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel. The Funeral Mass will be March 25 at 4 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 1920 Newburg Road. A private burial service will take place March 26 in the Xaverian Cemetery on the St. Xavier campus.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Xavier High School Scholarship Fund or to the Xaverian Brothers for their African Missions.
