Ursuline Sister Helen Marie Lutz, 87, dies

Ursuline Sister Helen Marie Lutz died March 19 at Mercy Sacred Heart. She was 87 and had been an Ursuline sister since 1952.

Sister Lutz, a native of Canton, Miss., served in Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

In Kentucky, Sister Lutz taught Spanish at Ursuline Academy and Sacred Heart Academy. She also taught sixth-grade at St. Timothy School and was a secretary at the Ursuline School of Music and Drama, which is now Sacred Heart School for the Arts.

Sister Lutz also provided literacy program assistance and volunteered with the sick and elderly.

She is survived by her sisters Mary Hansen of Goldsboro, N.C.; Joann Meredith of Palo Alto, Calif.; Carol Witmer of New Holland, Pa.; her brothers, Pratt Lutz of Tampa, Fla.; and Robert Lutz of Ocean Springs, Miss.; nieces and nephews and her religious community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, March 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 25 at 11 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery.
