Ursuline Sister Marie Brenda Vowels, an educator, dies

Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Marie Brenda Vowels died July 27 at Mount St. Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky. She was 92 and was in her 73rd year of religious life.

Sister Vowels, a native of Louisville, served as an educator for 31 years. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Charles School in Lebanon, Ky., St. Catherine School in New Haven, Ky., and St. Martin School in Flaherty, Ky.

Sister Vowels spent another 30 years teaching and ministering to Native Americans in New Mexico. She also served in parish ministry for 17 years.

Survivors include her sister Barbara Whelan of Louisville, nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.  July 31 at Mount St. Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky.
