Ursuline Sister Emma Cecilia Busam, an educator and archivist, dies at 97

Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Emma Cecilia Busam died Dec. 14 at Mount St. Joseph. She was 97 and in her 75th year of religious life.

Sister Busam, a native of Owensboro, Ky., served as an educator for more than three decades.

In Louisville, she taught at St. James School from 1951-1956 and at Holy Cross School from 1956-1958. She served as a principal and art teacher in several other schools in Kentucky.

At Mount St. Joseph, Sister Busam served as director of archives from 1983-2001 and as director of the congregation’s museum from 1983-1992. She also served as archivist for the Diocese of Owensboro from 1991-2011.

Sister Busam is survived by her sister Mary Agnes Vance of Connersville, Ind., nieces and nephews and members of her religious community.

Visitations will begin at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 followed by a wake service at 6:30 p.m. at Mount St. Joseph.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 18 at Mount. St. Joseph.
