Ursuline Sister Assumpta Devine dies at 86

OSU-obituaries-wUrsuline Sister Assumpta Devine died Oct. 12 at Mercy Sacred Heart in Louisville. She was 86 and had been an Ursuline Sister of Louisville since 1950.

Sister Devine, a native of Struthers, Ohio, served in a variety of roles as a teacher, administrator and leader in the Ursuline community. Most recently, she served as the administrator of the former Marian Home, the Ursuline nursing facility, from 1984 to 2004.

She also served as the student personnel director at Ursuline College from 1963 to 1965 and as an assistant professor of biology until 1968. She served her Ursuline Congregation as a formation director, personnel director, vice-president (1976 to 1980) and councilor (1980 to 1984). Sister Devine also taught at Holy Spirit School from 1952 to 1953, at the former Ursuline Academy from 1954 to 1957 and in Pittsburgh.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Emily Devine of Cupertino, Calif., nieces, nephews and her Ursuline Community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, on Oct. 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery.
