Two Sisters of Mercy will celebrate 60th anniversaries

Two Sisters of Mercy who are celebrating their 60th jubilees in religious life will be honored Sept. 14 at St. William Church, 1226 W. Oak St.

Sisters Marie Ellen O’Bryan and Joyce Ogden are natives of Louisville and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1954.

Sister O’Bryan serves as a massage therapist at Baptist Health and as a volunteer at Kosair Children’s Hospital. She has served at several parishes in the Archdiocese of Louisville, including St. Polycarp, St. Paul, St. Athanasius, St. Aloysius in Louisville and St. Aloysius in Pewee Valley, Ky. She also served as a Montessori teacher in Ohio. She has ministered in health care and pastoral care. And she served as a chaplain and massage therapist in Kentucky, Iowa and Arkansas.

Sister Ogden has served as an artist and teacher. She currently volunteers as an art teacher with Kentucky Refugee Ministries’ elder program, at Dayspring and at Sacred Heart Village. She also has an art studio and exhibits her work. She taught at Mercy Academy and Assumption High School for 20 years and later worked at the Portland Boys and Girls Club and at grade schools. Sister Ogden also served as an art therapist who ministered at Bridgehaven for nearly 20 years.
